Nov. 12, 2024: Canadian agri-food producers applaud the Senate Foreign Affairs and International Trade Committee for recommending amendment of Bill C-282 so that it not apply to existing trade agreements or those being renegotiated or currently under negotiation.

Canadian Agri-Food Producers Launch Campaign Warning of Bill C-282’s Threat to Trade

Oct. 30, 2024: Canadian agri-food producers raised the alarm on Parliament Hill today about the risks posed by Bill C-282, legislation they warn would restrict Canada’s flexibility in negotiating free trade agreements. To bring needed attention to the harms of Bill C-282, the Canadian Agri-Food Trade Alliance has launched KeepCanadaTrading.ca, which encourages Canadians to send letters directly to Senators, urging them to reject this legislation.

CAFTA Delegation Reaffirms Support for North American Agri-Food Trading System at Tri-National Accord Meetings

October 24, 2024: The Canadian Agri-Food Trade Alliance (CAFTA) attended the 33rd Annual Tri-National Agricultural Accord meetings from October 21-23 in Arlington, VA, to reinforce its strong support for the North American agri-food trading system.

October 8, 2024: In all these consultations, CAFTA has wished to underline largely the same point, which is that undermining the global rules-based trading system risks having a negative effect on Canada’s economic security. The prosperity of Canadians depends upon our ability to export, and we do so mainly under the WTO rules that are at the heart of the global trading system.

Public Consultations on Potential New Measures to Advance and Defend Canada’s Economic Security Interests

September 20, 2024: At a time of global economic uncertainty, Canada’s economic security is enhanced by reinforcing and strengthening the sectors and industries where we already excel. The agri-food exporting sector is a key example for Canada. A fair and open international trade environment for agri-food is in Canada’s economic interest. Agri-food is responsible for 1 in 9 jobs in Canada, and the majority are in export-based agri-food.
