CAFTA Welcomes Prime Minister Mark Carney and Newly Elected Government
(Ottawa, Canada – April 29, 2025) The Canadian Agri-Food Trade Alliance (CAFTA) welcomes Prime Minister Mark Carney, and all Members of Parliament elected to Canada’s 45th Parliament. We also extend our appreciation to all party leaders and candidates for contributing to Canada’s democratic process.

As the voice of Canada’s agri-food exporters, CAFTA is committed to working with the federal government to advance trade policies that expand market access, strengthen international partnerships, and help Canada navigate a rapidly evolving global trade landscape.

“As global trade dynamics evolve, Canada must focus on maintaining strong relationships with major partners like the United States, expanding access through diversified trade opportunities, and upholding a stable, rules-based trade environment that provides certainty for Canadian exporters,” said Greg Northey, President of CAFTA.
With nearly 90 per cent of Canadian farmers relying on international markets, trade remains fundamental to the agri-food sector.

“Collaborating with the government on trade policy will be essential to ensuring Canada remains competitive on the global stage,” said Michael Harvey, Executive Director of CAFTA. “Our members are ready to work with the government to advance a trade agenda that supports agri-food exporters, strengthens Canada’s economic resilience, and delivers long-term benefits across the value chain.”

CAFTA urges the government to take concrete steps, developed in close consultation with exporters, that protect and expand access to international markets and support the success of Canada’s agri-food sector.
